Visa Information

Visa requirements are different according to each country. Visitors to Hong Kong must hold a passport that is valid for at least six months beyond the date of their intended stay in Hong Kong. Visitors from most countries are not required to obtain visas and can stay for periods varying from 7 days to 180 days, depending on nationality.
Please check the web site of the Hong Kong Immigration Department and the Chinese embassy or consulate to find out whether you need to apply for an entry visa to Hong Kong. Letter of Invitation

If you need a letter of invitation to apply for a visa to attend CSCIT and have not already received one please contact us immediately. Should a participant withdraw from the conference after the issue of Letter of Invitation, the consulate (and his/her supervisor) will be notified of the withdrawal accordingly.

COVID-19 Travel Measures

Getting there (Part 1: to CUHK campus)

From Hong Kong International Airport
You may get to the campus of the the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Sha Tin, New Territories, from Hong Kong International Airport, Chek Lap Kok, Lantau Island, by public transport or by taxi. From the arrival hall go to the center exit:

From the center exit go forward to the Airport Express / MTR, turn right for buses or left for taxis.

Airbus Route No. A41, then Taxi / MTR
Journey Time: approx. 65 minutes
Operation: From airport: 06:00 – 24:00 / To airport from YU CHUI COURT: 05:30 – 23:30
Frequency: 20 minutes
Fare: (first part) Airbus, HK$ 22.3 (US$3) per person. (second part) Taxi to University Station / Hostel is approximately HK$ 60 OR Mass Transit Railway (MTR) from Sha Tin Station to University Station is HK$ 4.5 (US$ 0.6)

AIRPORT (GTC) BUS TERMINUS by following the signs from the departure area and walking a long down slope stretch to outside the air-conditioned area on the RIGHT. Once you get outside, you will see the bus stops.
There is a Long Win Customer Service & Airbus Ticket Office where you can buy the bus ticket. *
Take Airbus Route No. A41 with destination to YU CHUI COURT and get off at SHA TIN CENTRAL BUS TERMINAL. (This is the third stop.)
Take taxi to University Station / Hostel OR Take Mass Transit Railway (MTR) from Sha Tin Station to University Station.

Airport Express / MTR

Journey Time: approx. 70 minutes
MTR is easy and convenient. However you still need to take a taxi or bus for the last small portion.
Board the Airport Express to Hong Kong Station. The main platform is located directly across the concourse as you exit from customs. *(tickets are available on the platform HK$ 125 (US$ 16 ) ). If you are spending more time in Hong Kong, it is advisable to get an “octopus card” , this stored value card can be used on all transport and at many shops)

  • Take Airport Express to Hong Kong Station>
    From Hong Kong Station Change trains to the Central Station, Tsuen Wan Line towards Tsuen Wan for 1 stop (walk 5 min within the station area).
  • From Central station to Admiralty Station (1 stop) change trains to East Rail Line towards Lo Wu (3 min walk within the station area).
  • From Admiralty Station to University Station (8 stops, 25 min)
  • Exit at University Station then taxi to Chinese University of Hong Kong, C. W. Chu College (5 min). HK$ 50.00 (US$ 7)
  • Take taxi or bus to the college

From Shenzhen (Lo Wu / Lok Ma Chau), China
The conference venue and hotel are located conveniently at MTR University Station along the East Rail line of the Mass Transit Railway (MTR).
From Lo Wu to University Station by Mass Transit Railway (MTR)
Journey Time: approx. 24 minutes
Fare: HK$25.5 (US$3.3) per person
From Lok Ma Chau to University Station by Mass Transit Railway (MTR)
Journey time: approx. 28 minutes
Fare: HK$25.5 (US$3.3) per person

  • You may consider purchasing an octopus card at the train station in the airport. They will charge HK$150 for this, 100 (value) and 50 (deposit). If you do this, you can use this card to pay for your bus and train without needing to bother for tickets (as usual in most countries). When leaving Hong Kong, you can return the card at HK airport train station. They will return all the remaining money (including deposit) in the card, save for HK$9 (handling fee). Octopus cards can also be used for small purchases at most stores.

You should have already received a QR code which you can show on Sunday, 13 August 2023, to security for entry.   This QR code was sent by email to you on 9 August 2023. (You might need to check your spam folder.) If you cannot find it, please contact us immediately.  For access to the CUHK campus on the remaining days, you can use the summer school badge that you will receive.


Go to CW Chu College by School Bus

After entering the CUHK campus, try to locate the CUHK bus stop and get on School Bus No. 4 (Mondays-Saturdays) / Route H (Sundays and public holidays). Get off at C. W. Chu College.

Accommodation

CSCIT2023 will take place at C. W. Chu College, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Lectures, accommodation, and most meals will be at the college. All participants will be housed in dorm style accommodation with two persons per room.

Check-in time: 13 August 2023, 3:00pm – 5:00pm
Check-out time: 18 August 2023, 3:00pm – 5:00 pm, or 19 August 2023, 9:00am – 12:00nn

(The official program will end on Friday, 18 August 2023, at approximately 3:00 pm. Depending on your return trip, you can check out on Friday afternoon or on Saturday morning.)

(please let us know if you will arrive or depart at a different time)

  – Given that one of the aims of our sponsor (Croucher Foundation) is to bring together students and professors from universities in HK and abroad, all participants (including from universities in Hong Kong) are expected to stay at CWC Chu College during the whole week.

  – Please carefully read the hostel regulations:
